Last night

So yesterday was our anniversary, which was really awesome. Two years in with a fur-baby and Kahlan...wow. Ok, last night, we put Kahlan down at about 11PM, a little later than usual. We have been working for 10PM (8 actually, but we are being realistic), but she eventually went down. At some point in the night, Kahlan started to stir. This whole process takes a long time, as Kahlan got her sleeping genes from Laura; my wife requires several snooze button hits to awaken properly. Once I realized Kahlan was pretty much awake, i looked at the clock.....5AM. Wow, the little bundle slept almost 6.5 hours. For arguments sake, lets just say it was a full night's sleep. Laura and I got up, got her changed and fed, and got Laura back to sleep. Kahlan went back down around 7AM. Anyway, i think Kahlan was trying to give Mommy and Daddy an anniversary present, the "full" night's sleep we would love to have. Ironically, Laura and I both slept badly...but its the thought that counts.

Hello From Andrew

Hello All,

Yes, I did suggest the name for this blog. I mean come on, the only other thing with "Ward" in it is Montgomery Ward (which most people do not even remember, confirming it as a forgettable name anyway). PLUS, being the parent of the new-born is a little...bit...crazy. So, when i suggested "The Psych Ward", Laura laughed and smiled. Rest assured she likes it as well. I know you are probably here to see some pictures, so we are going to get some up tonight. Along with the pictures, we will try to post with funny things she does or talents she is learning. For instance, right now, when she fills a diaper, its sounds like you are in a public bathroom at an amusement park...loud. Then, she smiles, which is too cute. Ohh i am sure she will read these some day and berate me, but for now, it makes me laugh. Enjoy the afternoon.

Kahlan Grace Ward

I figured we should at least get a few pictures up of Kahlan for anyone who wants to see how our baby girl has grown in the past few weeks.  Kahlan Grace Ward was born on Tuesday May 17th, 2011 at 3:58 am.  She was 8lbs 2ozs and 20.5 inches long.  Kahlan was born by emergency c-section after I developed an infection and pre-eclampsia during labor and was stalled at 9 cms for over 10 hours.  Kahlan did great during labor and after delivery but I hemorrhaged during surgery and for the next couple of days which then involved multiple transfusions.  I also battled an infection for almost two weeks which resulted in a total of 10 days in the hospital and countless IV antibiotics.  We finally made it home to stay on May 27th and have been doing great since then.  Here are a couple of pictures of our little girl.  We will update as much as we can with stories and pictures for family and friends to enjoy.

Love,

Laura

Fast asleep after escaping from the swaddle.

For some reason Kahlan loves to hold her pacifiers.  This started day one in the hospital and continues to be true to this day.

More cuddling with mommy.
